Japanese wood pellet demand has increased more than 30% per year for three years. The actual data for imported volume as shown in the graph below

In 2023, Japan imported about 5.8 million tons of wood pellet, increased about 30% comparing to 2022 (4.4 million tons)
Three main suppliers for Japanese wood pellet market are Vietnam, USA and Canada.

In 2023, Vietnamese market share for wood pellet in Japan is about 45%. Those figures for USA and Canada are 21 % and 27%, respectively.
The CIF price for wood pellet is above 200 USD/MT in 2022 and 2023. Expecially, in the end of 2022, the CIF price reached to 230 USD/MT, which is caused by the shock in demand of wood pellet after the war between Russia and Ukraine.
